How to Cook Oatmeal in Saladmaster

There are 4 types of oats out there.

Steel Cut Oats: This is the whole oat, unrolled and unprocessed type. These take the longest time to cook, and need at least 20 minutes on the stovetop.

Old Fashioned Oats or Rolled Oats: In between the quick oats and steel cut oats, you’ll find old fashioned or rolled oats. They are pretty similar, but the rolled ones are slightly rolled/pressed, which makes them more processed. These are thicker than quick oats, so they need more time to cook.

Quick cooking oats are partially cooked and then rolled pretty thin. They cook faster than old fashioned oats, but the texture is softer.

Instant-oats are completely cooked, dried and then rolled and cut. This makes them the fastest kind to cook, but probably not the best from a texture point of view. These are great for quick breakfast with hot water or for babies.

How do you cook oatmeal?

Put the water and salt in a small sauce pan.

The 1 Qt or 1.5 Qt

Add the rolled  oats , Start heat at medium high heat, place lid on. Cook until the vapo valve clicks rapidly, turn to low.

Cook until the water is absorbed. You can stir occasionally and scrape the bottom of the pan so nothing sticks and you get a creamy texture.

Once the water is fully absorbed and the oats are fluffy, remove from the heat.

Stovetop Oatmeal

1 Serving

1/2 cup oats

1 cup water or milk

Dash of salt

Cook about 5 minutes over medium heat; stir occasionally.

my favorite recipe is after the oats have cooked:

I add cinnamon,  few drops of liquid stevia,  cup of almond milk and 1 T. ground flax seeds. top with 2 cups of fresh fruit.

Chocolate Peanut Butter:  When the oatmeal is still warm, I stir in cocoa or cacao powder and keep stirring until the mixture looks chocolatey. Then embellish the chocolate taste with chocolate chips, and add a spoon of peanut butter along with crunchy peanuts on top.

Strawberry & Cream:  Just add fresh sliced strawberries, a splash of half and half or coconut cream or any non-dairy creamer, along with some honey and a touch of vanilla extract.

Banana Nut:  slice half a banana and add walnuts, ground flaxseeds and cinnamon.
